OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer [Definition]

elo-2E-terminal-printer.pngOEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer and pertains to hardware and software meant for distribution to companies who build point of sale and IT infrastructure systems.  OEM products are typically sold in a plain generic box vs. pretty retail packaging.OEM products are not meant to be sold in retail stores, though you can sometimes find them through OEM POS hardware retailers. Because resellers purchase large quantities for for multi-store rollouts, upgrades, system deployments, etc. you can typically find OEM products at a lower cost through one of these OEM resellers.
